Understanding Sickle Cell Anemia

Sickle Cell Anemia is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells and the way oxygen moves through the body.
Instead of staying round and flexible, sickle cells can become hard, sticky, and crescent-shaped, making it harder for them to flow smoothly through blood vessels.
When sickle cells block blood flow, they can cause pain, fatigue, anemia, swelling, infections, and other serious health complications.
Education, early care, community support, and awareness can help families better understand the condition and support those living with sickle cell disease.
